CRACKDOWN is all about killing immigrants?

Peter B over @ PTD magazine posted up a review of CRACKDOWN and gave it one star out of five(If you have no soul). You see Brian feels the main objective is to murder as many immigrants as you can and that’s just wrong.

Let’s see some of his comments about CRACKDOWN

“Crackdown is a game where your objective is to murder as many immigrants as possible.”

“If you can turn off your moral compass and embrace the mechanics of mowing down as many Latinos, Slavs, and Asians as you possibly can, you’ll have an absolute blast.”

“The truth is that it isn’t only a game. How we choose to spend our free time – and money – helps define who we are as people.”

“But I have no wish to separate the game from its context. The heroism in Crackdown is thoroughly larded with hate.”

“I have no doubt that the game will sell like hotcakes.

5 Stars, if you have no soul. Otherwise, 1 star.”

  1. I guess I sort of see where he’s coming from, and although the game’s enemies do appear to be immigrants, latinos, asians, etc. there is not enough plot in the game to say it in anyway demonizes them.

  2. I expected this to have Jack Thompson attached somehow, its the load of shit he would say.

  3. leave it to some moron to bring politics into a game. I play games to get away from that crap.

  4. …..Odd.
    Somewhat true.

  5. He does realize that these are based on real gangs and the agents are multinational… right? I guess Halo and Gears of War is all about Xenocide by that perspective. This guy is just trying to boost his hit count by adding controversy where there need not be any. It’s shady journalism akin to tabloids… sensationalism at its finest.

  6. I think you should have just skipped this article all together. It’s like Jack Thompson, every time you mention there names it gives them more power. Sandbox games and Moral Choice games give people the opprtunity to ‘choose’ how they behave. While I played Crackdown I chose to play as a peace-keeper, protecting the innocent and thwarting the criminal element. That was my choice. I find it rather odd that this ‘writer’ choose this time of national tragady to review a 2-month old game. Makes me wonder about his motives.

  7. What a complete asshat that guy is!

  8. I don’t remember Crackdowns objective to kill as many immigrants as possible. I don’t even remember immigrants even being in the game, I remember hispanics. Unless he thinks all hispanics are immigrants, I don’t know know what this guy is talking about. In fact I remember the objective being to stop crime, and stop criminals by being a police officer. The objective of the game is about stopping criminal organizations from taking over the city. Who ever said anything about immigrants?

  9. What a prik, im tired of people like this!

  10. People will say just about anything to get attention on the internet now-a-days. Take a look at Chad Warden.

  11. PSTRIPLE!1!11!. oh and hoosierdaddy I played with you on rainbowsix last week.

  12. haha that’s hilarious.

Even ignoring the semi-racist assumption that all ethnic minorities are immigrants, I can’t figure out who he’s talking about.

Is it the gang members? The ones who shoot you on site? With rocket launchers? I hardly consider it “murder” to kill them.

Or is it the civilians? Even though there is no objective related to killing them, and the game actually penalizes you for it.

  13. I am usually loath to confuse politics and games, but there is definately an unpleasant subtext to Crackdown. It simply is not a coincidence that the three main enemy factions correspond to the three main immigrant groups in the US. It’s done subtly though, which explains the outrage of the players who didn’t even see it while playing.
